In January this year, I went to a local agricultural show—the Milton A&P Show.
To my delight, there was a vintage chainsaw display by the South Otago Vintage Farm Machinery Club. Most of the saws are owned by member Tim Hunt.
This is simply a photo dump of all the chainsaws on display.
First up, the TELES SLCS or Super-Lightweight petrol chainsaw.
Next up is the STIHL 08 S, which was made 1965 – 1994.
And here’s the 90cc Power Machinery Woodboss “D” which came out in 1949, made in Vancouver, BC. Weighs 36 lbs / 16 kgs.
This is the 132cc, 5 hp Sankey P54 Power Saw that came out in 1953. It was England’s first one-man saw from J.H. Sanke & Sons.
Here’s the Homelite Super Wiz 80!
It’s a 95 cc saw, weighs around 22 lbs, and is “the best of the Wiz or Super Wiz chainsaws.”
This next model is the IEL Pioneer model HM.
It’s an 85.7cc saw that was made from 1955 – 1956.
Next is an IEL Pioneer model HC.
This one is 85.7 cc and was made from 1956 – 1957.
Next up, the McCulloch Super 250 chainsaw.
Introduced in 1970 and discontinued in 1975, it was built for heavy-duty cutting. Powered by a 5.4 horsepower engine with 5.3 cubic inch (87 cc) displacement, it delivered impressive performance for its time.
The 87 cc McCulloch 1-70 made 1959-60.
The Mall 4MG Chainsaw—made 1955 – 1957, 105 cc and 5.5 hp.
This is another IEL model I need to look into more…
The Clinton CS323. This model’s yellow and blue finish made it easy to spot!
Built between 1953 and 1956, it packed a 73.4cc engine with 4.5 horsepower and could run bars up to 30 inches.
Here’s a quick video scanning the chainsaws.
And another section of the vintage machinery display.
I plan on doing individual posts for all these different models, and will link to them from here as I do.
If you have information about the unknown models, let me know in the comment section below.
I hope to visit the owner of these saws soon to learn more about them and to see the rest of his collection. Will share more pics after that happens!
